This Saturday, December 11th, 2021, the second edition of Nimma Hacks will take place. Nimma Hacks is a 24-hour hackathon. During these 24 hours, teams from different backgrounds and educational levels will try their hardest to find a solution for one of the challenges in the local high-tech and health sector faces.
Nijmegen is known as an ‘Old City with a Young Vibe’, but did you know that the city is also the Health & High-tech hotspot of the Netherlands? Keeping healthcare affordable and accessible, sufficient and to provide food for everyone: these are just two of the major challenges for the future, which companies and research institutions in Nijmegen are working on together. Day in, day out with thousands of people from all over the world. With this hackaton we would like to contribute to this goal!
Nimma Hacks starts on December 11th at 10.00 and will last until 10.00 AM the next morning. Unlike the previous edition, the problem definition has already been announced. The problem definition is as follows: ‘How can young people (especially women) in the Nijmegen region be motivated to choose a career or study in the Health and High-tech sector and how can the business community benefit from this in the short term by dealing with the shortage on the labour market?’
Nimma Hacks will be facilitated entirely online. On a specially equipped communication platform, teams have their own meeting rooms and their own channels for sending information and documentation. The event is therefore completely corona-proof organised. During the hackathon, the teams are assisted digitally by various experts in the field. The team behind Nimma Hacks will provide fun energizers and intermezzos during the day and during the night.
Everyone can participate in teams of 3, 4 or 5 people. At the end of the event, the teams submit an implementation plan that is hands-on and could be put into action immediately. However, a good plan also deserves to be realised and therefore the participating parties have reserved an amount of at least €10.000,- to actually realise the plan! Finally, an independent jury will decide who will win the first prize. In addition to the implementation budget, the prize includes a balloon ride with the entire team over the Novio Tech Campus, a year of free entrepreneurship at Start-Up Nijmegen (worth €2,940) and a workspace for 1 month in combination with recording a pitch and promo video at Kadans Science Partner.
The award ceremony will be broadcast via a livestream on Friday 17 December 2021.
Nimma Hacks is an initiative of the Municipality of Nijmegen and is made possible by Ampleon, Byondis, CITC, University of Arnhem and Nijmegen, Novio Tech Campus, NXP, RadboudUMC, Radboud University, The Economic Board, Tourism Veluwe Arnhem Nijmegen, Start Up Nijmegen, Tech Gelderland and Kadans Science Partner.
